" I appreciate the patience of most of the staff and how the doctors listened to my questions and concerns. There really needs to be an option when you call to go straight to the front desk. With the amount of times I called to check on my cat, I don't want to listen to the same recordings over and over. I don't mind being on hold, I understand the staff is very busy, but if when placed on hold there could be silence, I would really appreciate it. "

" They kept me updated on his progress of trying to get him to purge a quarter he swallowed. After it did not come up they then took an X-ray to see if he had indeed swallowed it and sure enough it was in his stomach. Thankfully I can report today that the quarter l Safely returned to the outside world again. The staff is magnificent and they take such Awesome care of my Blue Skye. " It was a very good visit for a stressful time. I was there from 7am till 12 noon. Very busy place. My room was freezing!!! One of the staff came in after a couple hours (I chose to stay with my dog) to give me a snack. Very very nice. She saw I was shivering and brought me in a blanket. I really appreciated that. Overall, a very good experience with people who have a very stressful job. "

But I do understand that the office was short staffed and that there are more critical cases that need to be put first. " I would have liked written instructions on how to treat, when to return for blood work, etc. Also, I was told that there was an opening and I should bring the dog right in, but then it turned into an 8 hour stay because of being “over capacity.” That might be difficult for some, but thankfully I was able to cancel plans and make it work. I am very thankful that our little girl was able to get the care she needed and everyone was super nice. "

" Thank goodness for 1st Pet emergency Vet, I have used you many times over 20 years. You always greatly help in times when I can't see my own vet. My only concern with 1st Pet is the cost. It's always 2-3 times what I would pay at my vet. But in an emergency, that is less important than getting the care that I need for my pets. "

" Our experience was amazing with our dog Marshall and the staff at 1st Pets! The wait time was a bit long but that wasn’t their fault. I would have just liked to maybe know where our dog was at in the order, but I’m sure that is difficult to do with cases changing by the minute and a bunch of other emergency vets on diversion. The staff helped calm me down since I was frantic. I knew they were going to help Marshall know matter how long it took! They provided us blankets to snuggle with our dog on the ground, snacks, water, and even a computer for my 8 year old to watch Disney plus on! Thank goodness! It was the perfect distraction for a very stressful evening. I also loved how up front the staff was about cost and helping me find options on how to cover the cost of the services needed. Thank you so much for getting my puppy back to himself!! I will never forget how much the staff of 1st Pets was there to support all of our needs all evening long! "

" I was extremely disappointed that my dog was not sedated when I left him there. The tech assured me that as a pain free facility dogs with anxiety would be sedated to make their stays a little easier. The quality of care was quite good otherwise. When I picked him up he was clearly dealing with his separation anxiety though. Sedating him as promised would have helped him alot. "

" We came in a an emergency, not immediate life threatening, but she needed to be seen soon. They told us it would be 4 to 6 hours. But they were able to get her in 3 hours. " The only minor complaint that I have was they were going to charge me again for an examination that I never had. It was quite substantial. They still charged me, but it was lower. Thye ended up reversing the charges, which I appreciated. It was my second visit within 24 hours. Other than that, everybody was extremely professional and friendly. " Everyone of your employees were kind and understanding the whole time I was there. Also tried to comfort me because I thought Abigail behavior was an indication that she had serious medical issues. I never thought that she was in heat after talking about her erratic behavior and intense crying even after I had consulted her vet and other persons who had more experience than I had with an animal After the tech talked with the vet and came back and told me what she thought Abigail’s problem was. It then made more sense and the tech gave me the option of going home if I thought her issue was solved But I talked with the vet and she answered my questions regarding any further ways I could comfort Abigail. Anyways she is doing very well and I consulted my vet and we will go forward on Tuesday next week with her surgery for getting her spaded. Again I want to thank you all for helping me and alleviating my issues with Abigail "

" The wait time on the weekend was understandable but I'm unclear why my dog waited 4 hours (when we called in and requested it) for pain medication (she was in the ER on a Sunday for a dog bite wound). I did sign off on giving pain medication when I dropped her off at approximately 10 am but she wasn't given anything until we followed up around 2 pm. The surgery performed was good and the doctor who did our follow up visit was awesome. "

Our entire visit was wonderful, and the vet treated my dog with what she could safely give her...she did not try to tack on a bunch of other meds/charges (as other places have done in the past). This is the only emergency vet I will use because they are always professional,, and they have always shown compassion towards me and my fur babies. Thank you! "

" Luckily I had written down the doctor’s recommendations (for my dog to take a steroid for a week after discharge) because when the technician went over the discharge instructions with me she had no idea what I was talking about, and the medication wasn’t listed in the paperwork. I waited while she clarified with the doctor, and my dog WAS supposed to be on the steroid. The technician quickly corrected the error, but it would have been easy to miss if I hadn’t written it down myself. Other than that the staff were so kind and helpful, the doctor was amazing and answered all my questions, the communication via text was super helpful and appreciated, and the facility was beautiful and exceptionally clean. I posted a recommendation on my personal Facebook as well as the company’s, would definitely use again and recommend to anyone. "

" The tech who brought Kahlua out to us to go home barely explained anything on the discharge paperwork. Good thing I'm a retired healthcare professional so reading it all makes sense, but I expected her to cover the most important points with us. She also admitted to not being able to get Kahlua's harness on correctly, and that she tried to wipe off the diarrhea, um, the dog smelled so bad we couldn't wait to give her a bath. It's so sad that one employee out of all the rest can sour an opinion on an experience. I am still considering switching over to 1st Pet from VCA, for all our veterinary needs. Thank you. "

" 1st Pet deserves so much respect and love. Sunday they were at capacity. They took the time to look at my dog’s twisted rear leg. The staff of being worked and pulled in a 100 directions. We were given the choice to leave him and they world try to look at him in 5-6 hours. They were able to! The doctor called and was super pleasant even after working non stop I imagine for hours. The girls at the desk and the tech who went over my dogs going home procedure were amazing. Working hard under the conditions of animals in need is more then my heart could take. " Getting veterinary care right now is very difficult. My 8.5 yr old mastiff has had many medical challenges in the last year- including 2 amputations due to cancer, a bleeding ulcer from a med, 2 episodes of aspiration pneumonia - so when she gets sick I can't wait it out. I couldn't find care for her. I couldn't get adequate care for her quickly. I called 5 vets. The soonest anyone could see her was Tuesday, so ER care was the only option for me when she started vomiting, diarrhea, panting, and lethargy. Getting ER care was also difficult - too busy - being on diversion, etc. She had long waits to be seen & long waits for care to be given. When I called when symptoms got worse, I was told I would get a priority call back, and 24 hours later, I still hadn't received a call. I ended up joining the "Fuzzy" app so I could ask a veterinary technician my questions & get advice. No follow up either on how she's doing since getting out of the hospital. I feel very alone in this. "

" Not up-selling services When I go the doctor with suspected strep throat, the dr does a review and prescribes an antibiotic. If the dog is suspected of having kennel cough, do the physical and give a prescription. Xrays, blood tests and other costly servuces shouldn't be offered unless the dog is really sick. "

" Pet 1st helped us with a very difficult time in our families lives. We had two pups that passed away months from each other. They both were super old, but still they are family. The compassion and love that came from everyone within the office was up and above. When our new pup got ill and our regular vet was closed, we didn't hesitate to call and they told us to bring her in right away. The wait time was long but the care they took with not only me, but her was outstanding. They made sure that both of us were comfortable and even offered us a snack and water while we waited. It goes to show that they really care about their customers and the animals they treat. They take their time and diagnose all possible things. " My dog cut her head right above her eyes and on her nose. We came in for emergency service on a Sunday afternoon. She is a very large dog and I couldn't stay with her due to covid restrictions and a long wait time. She isn't the best patient but, the staff handled her well and they were helpful and understanding. The doctor explained the treatment needed thoroughly to me on the phone. My dog ended up with many stitches. They faxed all information to my vet without me asking. The doctor did a beautiful job stitching, the cut healed well and it's barely noticeable now that her fur has grown back. Thank you!! "

" Was very happy with the emergency service that was provided to my canine. It was a Sunday and most animal hospitals were closed or not seeing anyone new. I had to drive almost an hour to 1st Pet. The technician came to my car, and said that it would be a 2-4 hours for the assessment and treatment to be completed. I explained to the technician that if it was two hours, that I would stay put since I'm an hour away. If it was closer to the 4 hours mark, that I'd probably go home. The technician then took our canine into the center. I was finishing up the paperwork when I received a call from the Dr. She indicated that we should come into the clinic, barring any exigent emergencies not yet there, she would have us out in a couple of hours since we were a little far away. The staff was excellent and was very happy with the treatment and care for both my canine and myself. "

" My cat had a critical emergency procedure done on February 16 in the Chandler office. Frankly the non-common-sense, fear-driven face mask requirement somewhat surprised me. It was such a focus that office personnel appeared so-so friendly. Discussion with vet and phone call later was good. Wonderful to receive cat's photo taken by ICU technician during Moolah's nightly stay. The $3000 bill was shockingly costly maybe because I hadn't had a similar pet experience and expense. This June 5 visit was a stable emergency at the Mesa facility. Staff was friendlier than Chandler's. The non-common-sense, fear-driven face mask requirement remained. Only conversed with vet on phone. She seemed a warmer personal than the Chandler vet. $375 x-ray and $35 injection for nausea. Wow! Overall, issues were resolved. Appreciate the services. "

" The daytime emergency staff at 1st Pet Veterinary Centers in Mesa were fantastic. Dr. Butler spent a lot of time explaining things to us, and our basset hound, Lourdes, is much better already thanks to the excellent care she received for a UTI at the Mesa location. We cannot say the same for the nighttime staff at the Chandler location, however. We took Lourdes there the previous evening and were told they could not help because they were understaffed and the vet was busy tending to other pets. They said Lourdes would be fine to go home and wait until the following morning to check with her regular vet (at that same location). No recommendation was made to go to the Mesa location or another emergency vet even though Lourdes was clearly in distress. It turns out that Lourdes had a UTI that was quite serious and needed to be treated with antibiotics and painkillers. Perhaps if I had gone to the Mesa location that evening Lourdes would not have had to spend that entire night in distress. "

" We were so frightened when our 4-month-old puppy had an allergic reaction with a swollen face. We had never experienced that. I rushed in through the doors and immediately someone took her and came back to let us know what was going on. We decided to stay and were placed in a really nice room. There was a disruption with a family next door that was difficult, but the staff was really great to come in and talk to us and apologize for the commotion. We felt like we very well taken care of, offered water and snacks while we waited. The only strange thing was that the doctor called me on my phone to update us about Ruby. He likely didn't know that we were there. Not that it mattered, just something that was a little odd. " Allowing me to stay with my Service Dog while waiting for treatment really help to calm my dog. It was a busy night and I am happy we could be seen. It was determined that my service dog had no broken bones, but had some spinal injury. The doctor referred me to a specialty clinic where her injury could be treated. I trust what treatment the doctor was advising me to be the best choice for my Service Dog and followed her suggestion. My Service Dog required surgery to repair 3 impacted disks in her back and she is now in recovery. I want to thank the Doctor for helping me make the right choice and her kind treatment of my Service Dog. "

" One issue that I would like to bring up was regarding my initial phone call to the Chandler location. I was asked if I wanted to make an appointment for the following week to have a dog bite looked at. The person told me they had no rooms available. This was not like scheduling for a routine physical. This was something that was out of the ordinary that I considered to be a medical emergency to make sure our pet didn't need any stitches and that there was no infection present. I don't really think the tech understood my concerns. She kept talking about scheduling an appt. If the Chandler facility which is where our normal vet is located was full she should have recommended one of your other locations. I had to ask about other locations. Then when I was given the # to the Mesa location no one answered even by pressing "1" that I was in the parking lot so I had to call your "623" location for them to call Mesa and have Mesa call me back. More work than it should have been. "

" I would like to make mention that my previous experience with your company vs our most recent visit, we’re night and day! The last impression I had was not good and I never wanted to come back. This time (years later) I was so grateful to have gone to this location. The staff was so friendly, so professional, and really put my mind and nerves at ease. They took the best care of my poor girl who broke the end of her tail and needed that portion amputated. However, one area for improvement for the COMPANY (not the staff at this location) is affordability, and offering various payment options. We had to pay $1800 all upfront, unless we wanted to apply for a credit card which isn’t something we can do since we’re in the middle of buying a home. I was grateful I had the ability to pay for this upfront, but I truly don’t believe that this is the case for most families especially during a pandemic and financial crisis. I think there is big room for improvement in this regard. "

The only thing I had an issue with is when picking her up, she was carried out by the tech Not in her carrier. She had been diagnosed with pneumonia and it was quite chilly that night. This is a big health and safety concern for me. She was brought in, in a carrier with a blanket but did not leave that way. " My dog was experiencing an extreme allergic reaction to a vaccine. I called ahead and the girl told me to just come right in when we arrived, not to wait in our car due to the severity of the situation. When I came in, the horrible lady at the front desk was more concerned about me wearing a mask, than my dog. She told me we couldn't just come in. The techs and vet were great, attentive immediately, but she was awful. She later came back to collect our payment and again lectured me about a mask (which I was wearing) and about how they should have never told me to just come right in. She was awful and didn't help during such a stressful situation. She had NO empathy for my dog, was only concerned about herself. If she is truly immuno-compromised, working the front desk during a pandemic should not be the place for her. The vet however was wonderful, he came in to see us personally and very throughouly explained the treatment our dog needed. "

" From the initial phone call to pulling up and being admitted, this clinic really has their act together. The receptionist explained everything, technician took our dog inside and doctor called multiple times to explain what was happening, went over protocol and recommendations. When we explained we couldn’t afford the overnight stay, the doctor provided an alternate route which saved us money while we nursed our little guy back to health. The office and staff are amazing and we really appreciate all they did to help us out. After three days Baxter is now back to his old self and slowly transitioning to his regular diet.
